Okay, I know that teeth take a REALLY long time to come in for some of our kids. However, I had sworn that I saw the start of a tooth coming in for Kaylee yesterday, and today it is nowhere to be found. She was born with 2 neonatal teeth that fell out, so I am worried that maybe she just isn't going to get teeth. Did anyone's child have this issue? I know that there are some in her jawbone somewhere as they were seen on an MRI...but I am worried that they are unstable...or perhaps what i saw were adult teeth. Any insight?

Hey Laurie,

I did a bit of Googling and it certainly doesn't seem unusual for a young child's teeth to show themselves and then 'disappear' beneath the gum before re-emerging at a later date. Probably nothing to be overly worried about, but worth running past your dentist if you're concerned.

Teething is still a fair bit off for Mia, although I can see what look like a row of tiny teeth under her gums. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how they come through when the time comes...

Riley was a late teether also. She got her first tooth around 11 months, but then nothing for a while. She never had any symptoms of teething, no fever, running nose, fussy. They would just suddenly appear. Now at 25 months, she has 16 teeth, but they still aren't all the way in, probably half way in at this point. I know there are some kids who didn't get any until 18 months or later. Since you saw them on the MRI, you know they are there. You can try massaging her gums, which can help them emerge.

Our dentist said that what happens with the baby teeth will mirror what happens with the adult teeth. Kendall was late to get her teeth, so you may have a little bit of a wait still...

Ryley's baby teeth seemed to take forever to come through. Though I think his first one did come at 9 months. For those that follow the blog you may recall he had 16 teeth taken out last year because they had been eaten away from a combination of grinding, medication and not being formed correctly.
He had an x-ray of his gums and they found he has not many adult teeth. Only a couple are formed right. Some are really big and are coming in at an angle.
I think it is worth seeing a paediatric dentist from as early on as you can. We started seeing one when Ryley was about 3 years old. I am fairly sure that teeth issues can be part of WHS.
If they are there on the MRI then they will come through eventually! Teething is just so hard to have to go through for our kids and parents.

My daughter was born with two teeth which were removed and her "real" teeth that began coming in were molars first...yes, she loves to eat and I guess this is why. Her other teeth have come in now but I was told that these are not adult teeth, but baby teeth and she is 12 yrs old.
